Castro Marim Golf Club

The Castro Marim Atlantic Course comes with breathtaking mountain, river and sea views. Located near the village of Castro Marim (complete with mediaeval castle) near the Spanish border, the Castro Marim Atlantic Course is a challenging course and course architect Terry Murray has made strategic use of lakes and sandtraps, as well as the natural contours of the foothills.

The course is cut from the hillside making buggies a must except for the hill walkers amongst us. Buggies are available for hire on the day with no need to prebook.

A challenging course for all level of golfer with lightning greens and a premium on accuracy rather than length. Club facilities include driving range, putting green, short game practice area, pro shop, club rental, trolley and buggy hire and tuition.

An interesting feature is the irrigation system. The entire course is irrigated by an underground watering system which enables golfers to play at times when aerial sprinklers would normally be in use.

Although it is a fairly short course (5265 metres off the whites), Castro Marim calls for careful (and straight) play off the tees, with strategically placed water hazards and fairway terrain that can place you in trouble.

This is not to mention the well placed bunkers waiting for an erring ball. In addition most shots to the shorter par 5s and 4s on the course are uphill so club selection is very important.

The 19th hole clubhouse offers a very friendly finish to your round where there is an excellent variety of food and drink on offer. (a large new clubhouse shaped like the mediaeval castle has recently been completed).
